OPPO might be pushing further into the premium space with its latest smartphones, but that doesn't mean its going to stop releasing affordable handsets any time soon. The company today announced its latest: the $299 OPPO AX5s.
"All eyes are on 5G smartphones and we’re proud to be leading that charge," said Michael Tran, OPPO Australia Managing Director. "While we’re gearing up for a new era of smartphones, we understand flagship devices can often be an expensive purchase and at times a luxury not everyone can afford."
"At the same time, we understand choosing to purchase a sub-$300 smartphone usually means missing out on innovative features consumers actually want. That’s not the case with the AX5s, as we’ve taken many of the innovations found in OPPO’s flagship devices and packed them into our small but powerful new addition."
While the OPPO AX5s sure is a phone, it has a few standout features including a 89.35% screen-to-body ratio with a teardrop notch, and a sizeable 4,230mAh battery that should last for two to three days.
Key specifications for the AX5s include a 6.2-inch 720p+ display, a MediaTek MT6765 processor, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a 13MP + 2MP rear-facing camera setup, and a 4,230mAh battery. It runs OPPO's custom take on Android - ColorOS - based on Android 8.1
The OPPO AX5s retails for $299 outright and is available in a choice of black and red. You can get it today through JB Hi-Fi, Telechoice, and Mobileciti. It will also be available from Optus from April 29.
