OPPO is bringing new two sub-$300 phones to Australia with big durability claims. Both the OPPO A60 5G and OPPO A40 have received a MIL-STD 810H Certification for Military-Grade Shock Resistance, which the manufacturer says ensures "reliable protection from everyday drops and impacts".
Durability claims aren't overly common for more affordable devices - especially ones that don't feature a rugged design, so it's an interesting point of difference for the pair. Both phones are also rated IP54, which means they can survive splashes and being caught in the rain without issue. They're not rated for submersion, however.
There's also a "Splash Touch" feature which is said to make the pairs' screens easier to use if wet.
OPPO A60 5G is the slightly more premium of the pair thanks to 5G and a high refresh rate display. It does, however, have 2GB less RAM than the A40.
Key specifications for the OPPO A60 5G include a 6.67-inch 720p+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, 128GB of expandable storage, 4GB of RAM, and a 5,100mAh battery. In terms of photography, you get a 50MP camera on the back, and a 5MP selfie camera on the front.
Key specifications for the OPPO A40 include a 6.67-inch 720p+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 6s Gen 1 chipset, 128GB of expandable storage, 6GB of RAM, and a 5,100mAh battery. Like the A60 5G, there's a 50MP lens on the back and a 5MP selfie camera on the front.
Both the OPPO A60 5G and A40 are available now. The OPPO A60 5G will set you back $299 and comes in a choice of "nebula red" or "ocean blue", while the OPPO A40 is a little cheaper at $259 and comes in "starlight white" or "sparkle black".
You can pick the phones up from retailers including JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Big W, and OPPO's online store. At time of writing, you can't buy either on a mobile plan.
