The Nokia 7.2 is now available in local stores, and given its focus on camera and a $549 price tag, it seems like a clear attempt to take on the Pixel 3a.
The Nokia 7.2 camera configuration is made up of three lenses. It has a 48MP primary lens, an 8MP wide-angle lens, a 5MP depth lens, and a few software tricks up its sleeve. It has a portrait mode that emulates the bokeh from classic Zeiss lenses, and it's the first Nokia smartphone to have a night mode. The Nokia 7.2's night mode combines at least six images (and up to 20) for a brighter shot in low light environments.
Priced at $549, the Nokia 7.2 is $100 cheaper than the Pixel 3a, and could be a little more versatile thanks to the wide-angle lens. Much like the Pixel 3a, the Nokia 7.2 runs a clean version of Android (Android One) based on Pie. It will get upgraded to Android 10 rather promptly, however. The Nokia 7.2 is also a little more premium than the Pixel 3a, due to a predominantly glass build. Other than the screen, the Pixel 3a is plastic.
While we'll need some proper time to say where the Nokia 7.2 is the new midrange phone to beat, it sounds promising on paper and we came away impressed from a brief hands-on last month.
Other key specifications for the Nokia 7.2 a 6.3-inch 1080p+ display, a Snapdragon 660 processor, 128GB of expandable storage, 4GB of RAM, and a 3,500mAh battery said to last up to two days.
You'll find the Nokia 7.2 at Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, other select retailers from today in a choice of green, charcoal, or ice.
In addition, Telstra will be ranging a $499 Nokia 7.2 with a slightly smaller 64GB of storage "soon". The phone will only be available in charcoal through Telstra.
