For as long as smartphones have been folding, consumers have been complaining about the crease that’s often involved in the middle of the display. However, OPPO’s new Find N6 promises to set a new bar for foldable devices by eliminating the most visible compromise found on its competition.
It’s billed as the brand’s first foldable device with a “zero-feel crease” and comes in two colours: Stellar Titanium and Blossom Orange (legally distinct from the iPhone 17 Pro's "Comisc Orange"). Otherwise, the form-factor here is fairly familiar. The device features flag sides with contoured edges, redesigned buttons and a fresh take on the Cosmos Ring camera module found on the Find N5.
While we’re still waiting for the full spec sheet to drop, the main things to talk about are the design tweaks that OPPO have used to achieve an almost crease-less form-factor. This effect is partially the result of a re-engineered hinge, but that’s only part of the story.
To create a flatter foldable display, OPPO started by making and taking a leaner hinge design and then used 3D printing and UV solidification to smooth out the variability in the surface that sits underneath the screen. In addition, the manufacturer has also replaced the upper layer of the screen with a new auto-smoothing flex glass. Co-developed with Samsung, this element of the display is 50% thicker than the one found on the Find N5 and features greater shape recovery and deformation resistance.
All told, the OPPO Find N6 is said to feature 0.05mm of height variation versus the typical 0.2mm found on older foldable devices. Compared to its predecessors, it offers up to 82% reduced crease depth and comes armed with a set of crease-related certifications by independent testers at TÜV Rheinland that claim the hinge here is good for at least one million folds.
Even beyond that core pitch of cracking down on the crease, the Find N6 also comes with a number of additional durability improvements. Both the cover display and the back of the device are now built with materials that offer better drop resistance. OPPO has also gone to the trouble of getting the device triple-certified with IP56, IP58 and IP59 ratings for water and dust resistance. IP59 means the phone can survive high-pressure water jets, but it isn't as protected against dust particles as rivals like Google's Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
A teaser video has also revealed the Find N6 will have a 200MP camera and stylus support.
At the time of writing, official Australian pricing and availability for the Find N6 is yet to be confirmed.
