Oukitel WP63

The Oukitel WP63 is one of the most talked about smartphones at this year’s Mobile World Congress.

The company behind it is far from a household brand, and the specs are impressive but largely unremarkable. On the outside, the handset features a 6.7-inch FHD screen clocked at 120Hz. Then, on the back, it features a 64MP main lens and an 8MP ultrawide lens. Finally, on the inside, it’s powered by a Unisoc T8200 processor, runs Android 16, has 8GB of RAM, 512GB of on-board storage, plus an enormous 20,000mAh battery.

You might think that last detail is the one that’s got the tech press talking. You’d be wrong. The thing that sets the Oukitel WP63 apart is that it comes with a built-in electric igniter similar to one you’d find inside a car.

There’s no gas or oil involved here. Just an app-controller electric coil that gets hot enough to burn paper. Since there are no flammable liquids used, that should mean it's fine to take on a plan (provided it can't turn on accidentally). Some countries will restrict you to transporting it via carry-on, however.

While an Oukitel at the company’s booth did tell us that it can’t be used to light candles, the marketing angle for the device suggests it can be used to start campfires in situations where you’ve forgotten your matches. That positioning leaves a lot to the imagination in terms of what the device’s most interesting capability could be used for. Smoko, for example.

The Oukitel WP63 doesn’t yet have a price, but I wouldn’t hold out for any form of Australian availability. The manufacturer typically sells directly to consumers via its website or online grey market resellers. That doesn’t mean you can’t or necessarily shouldn’t buy the Oukitel WP63, just that you should be aware of the pros and cons that come with doing so.

Disclosure: WhistleOut Australia's coverage of Mobile World Congress 2026 is supported by OPPO.
