If you’ve been thinking about giving MVNOs a chance then now might be a good time. Lebara is currently offering 50% off on three plans:
- $29.90 National Plan
- $39.90 Mega Plan
- $49.90 Unlimited Plan
All three plans are month-to-month, so there’s no lock-in contracts or long-term commitments. Offer ends March 31. Once you make a payment, your plan is valid for 30 days.
| National Plan | Mega Plan | Unlimited Plan |
National Plan
Usually $29.90, right now you can pick up the National Plan for $14.95. It includes 2GB of data, unlimited standard national calls and calls to mobiles, unlimited national SMS and MMS, and even unlimited calls to 1300 numbers.
Mega Plan
The Mega plan is usually $39.90, but is $19.95 on the deal. For this you get 4GB of data and the same unlimited inclusions as the National Plan.
This plan also offers calls to overseas countries charged in $10 blocks. Each country differs in the amount of minutes you’ll get for that price, so be sure to check out the plan details page if that sounds like something you’d be interested in.
Unlimited Plan
The Lebara Unlimited plan gives you 2GB of data and unlimited calls to 50 international countries.
Unlimited fixed line and mobile calls to: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong King, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Thailand, US and UK.
Unlimited fixed line calls to: Argentina, Brunei, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, French Guiana, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Peru, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan and Venezuela.
The benefit of month-to-month
If you already own a phone, then jumping to an MVNO and going month-to-month is a great way to save cash. There’s no lock-in-contracts if you don’t want one, although you can save even more by committing to a 6 or 12 month contract with Lebara (these options aren’t part of the 50% off deal), which means that you can bail any time you like.
It’s worth mentioning that Lebara operates over the Vodafone 3G network. That may bring back flashbacks of past network problems, but really Vodafone has been doing well for a while now thanks to a few changes in management and a huge push towards improving its network coverage.
Thanks to the month-to-month format it’s relatively risk-free to give it a go. All you’re gambling with is a single month of carrier service and right now that single month is half price.
