JB Hi-Fi is selling Telstra plans with up to $740 off the price of your phone

If you've been thinking about taking up a BYO mobile plan with Telstra, you can now do it through JB Hi-Fi and get a cheaper per month price, bonus data and a $200 gift card or up to $740 store credit towards the outright cost of your phone.

JB Hi-Fi has launched a couple exclusive Telstra mobile plans with the following offers for new customers willing to bring their number to Telstra:

• $45 Mobile BYO Plan (12 months) – Unlimited talk and text, 25GB data (15GB + 10GB bonus) and $200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card
• $65 Mobile BYO Plan (24 months) – Unlimited talk and text, 45GB data (40GB + 5GB bonus) and $300 Phone Credit towards outright phone purchase (where the full phone price is less than $999)
• $65 Mobile BYO Plan (24 months) – Unlimited talk and text, 45GB data (40GB + 5GB bonus) and $500 Phone Credit towards outright phone purchase (where the full phone price is $999 or more)

From today until September 30, JB Hi-Fi is also offering $740 off the iPhone X 64GB (currently selling at JB Hi-Fi for $1,479) when you choose the $65 BYO plan. If you're in the market for an iPhone X, this may be your last chance to buy it from JB Hi-Fi, as the model has been discontinued by Apple in the wake of the iPhone XS launch earlier this month.

If you have your current mobile service with Belong and Boost Mobile (both Telstra MVNOs) you're also eligible to upgrade to the JB Hi-Fi exclusive Telstra plans. If you choose the $65 plan you'll get the $300 credit offer towards the purchase of your phone. But unfortunately Boost and Belong customers can't get the $200 gift card or the $500 phone credit offer with either plan. Bummer!

However, the JB Hi-Fi plans represent a reasonable saving for anyone who's been considering a BYO mobile plan with Telstra. The plans are $4 cheaper per month with an extra 5GB more than corresponding BYO phone plans sold through Telstra. However, Telstra's $89 BYO mobile plan with 60GB of full-speed data plus unlimited "peace of mind" data (capped at speeds of 1.5Mbps) is currently not available through JB Hi-Fi.
