JB Hi-Fi has just launched a couple of exclusive Telstra plans available in-store only, and to celebrate, its running a pretty huge promo: if you sign up for its 24-month plan you can get a 64GB iPhone X for $739 upfront. That's about a 50% discount.
In terms of the plan itself, you'll get 45GB of data, and unlimited talk and text. It doesn't have any international inclusions. It is however $4 per month cheaper than Telstra's equivalent plan (listed below), which is billed at $69 per month with 40GB of data. It does however include "peace of mind" data, meaning you'll get slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps when you reach your data cap instead of paying excess charges. Peace of mind data can be added to JB's plan for an extra $10 per month.
The iPhone X offer ends September 30 and is available in-store only for customers new to Telstra. Customers who port out and in are not eligible for promo; you must have been off the Telstra network for 30 days to qualify.
So is this a good deal? Including the discounted iPhone X, you're paying $2,299 over 24 months. To get an iPhone X plan with a comparable data allowance, you're looking at $100 per month on Optus ($2,400 over 24 months), $121.62 per month on Vodafone ($2,918.88 over 24 months), and $140 per month on Telstra ($3,360 per month). If you want Telstra coverage, you're saving yourself over $1,000. You are however paying a lot more upfront in exchange for a lower monthly bill, which could be a tough sell for some.
