Samsung today announced local availability and pricing for the new Galaxy Note 5, with the phone to be in store from September 4.
The upfront price for the 32GB Note 5 phablet will be $1099 in Australia. Telco contract pricing will follow shortly, though pre-sale enquiries across all the major telcos should be available later today.
Samsung will also release the new Galaxy S6 Edge+, a larger version of the S6 Edge released early in the year. It will also hit stores on September 4 and is slightly more expensive, with the full retail value set at $1199.
Both phones feature large 5.7-inch QHD screens and identical Octo-core processors with 4GB RAM. Internationally the handsets come with 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options, but it is yet to be seen whether the telcos will offer all options, or just the base 32GB variant.
Seriously impressive
WhistleOut has had a chance to use both the Note 5 and S6 Edge+ at a press briefing this morning, and both phones do seem to be among Samsung’s best — especially the Note 5. Performance is silky smooth, and the screens are magnificent.
The most impressive element during our brief hands-on demonstration was definitely the camera in the Note 5. Photos are fired off in the blink of an eye, and the results seemed exceptionally true to life. Even when we zoomed in on these photos, it was difficult to identify any major flaws or blemishes.
As we noted in an earlier article, the Note 5 has a number of enhanced S-Pen handwriting features, including the ability to scrawl a quick note on the lock screen without having to turn the screen on. Once a note is written it can be converted into an SMS messages or email, or phone numbers can be used to create a new contact entry, using the handwriting to text software conversion.
All in all, the Note 5 looks to be on the winning handsets of 2015.
