You'll be able to get a refurbished iPhone 8 from Coles for just $279 next week

Boost Mobile has teamed up with Coles to offer customers a refurbished iPhone 8 for just $279 or a refurbished iPhone XR for $499 from next week. The phones come with a 12-month warranty, a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, and $10 off a Boost $30 SIM if you buy one in the same transaction. Here's Boost's current range of prepaid plans:

The refurbished iPhone deal will be available at Coles supermarkets nationwide from January 26, but not online. This offer runs until March 1. No matter whether you pick the iPhone 8 or iPhone XR, you'll get a 64GB model.

Boost started selling refurbished smartphones in 2019, partnering with device supplier Alegre. Alegre says it completes a 72-point check to ensure all refurbished phones perform at a high standard and have enough battery capacity left. In addition, it only sources Australian-compliant phones that have been wiped and cross-checked against a police database.

Refurbished smartphones may have minor cosmetic damage including scuffing or light scratches on the screen, but won't have any cracks.

While both the iPhone 8 and iPhone XR are rather old devices, we're expecting to see Apple still offer a couple of years of software support for both. The iPhone 8 should get at least two more years of major updates, taking it to iOS 17, while the iPhone XR should get at least three years, meaning it will be able to run iOS 18 when that launches.
