Belong’s cheapest mobile and NBN plans are getting a price hike

Telstra's budget brand Belong is increasing the prices of its cheapest mobile and NBN plans from July 1.

Only Belong's $21 mobile plan with 7GB of data is getting a price rise. From July 1, it will become a $25 per month plan with 10GB. Belong doesn't let new customers sign up to this plan; the only way to get it is to sign up for a different mobile plan and then drop down.

In an email sent to customers, Belong said it regularly assesses the value of its plans.

"This change reflects ongoing investments in service quality, including security performance, and dedicated customer support," said the telco.

Belong's other mobile plans are unchanged, but the current bonus data deals it is running are all set to run on June 30. Here are Belong's mobile plans:

On the NBN front, Belong is increasing the price of its NBN 25 plan from $70 per month to $72 per month, and its NBN 50 plan from $85 per month to $88 per month. Its NBN 100 plan is unchanged, but a $10 per month discount that Belong is currently offering will end on June 30. This saves customers $10 per month for their first six months with Belong.

Belong's NBN price hike coincides with wholesale pricing increases for all NBN providers. These new prices kick in on July 1, and in many cases, providers will pass them on. We've already seen some variance in how this is happening. Telstra itself and Tangerine have both signalled a price increase on NBN 100 plans, but Belong isn't changing pricing for its.

Telstra, Tangerine, and Belong are the only major providers to have announced their NBN price increases so far, but we'll see more and more as July 1 approaches.

Despite the price rises, many providers are still offering honeymoon discounts on their NBN plans. These are savings for new customers that tend to last between six months and a year. Most NBN plans are contract-free, so jumping between these discounted plans is an easy way to keep your NBN bill as low as possible.
