Apple has some bad news for you if you're still using an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or iPhone 5s: your phone is almost at the end of its life. The trio of devices won't be getting iOS 13, the latest version of the iPhone operating system when it goes live at the end of this week.
In addition to missing out on new features, the move means the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPhone 5s are unlikely to get any future getting security and stability updates after iOS 13 launches.
Apple is presumably discontinuing support for these devices due to memory limitations: the trio only have 1GB of RAM, whereas all new models have at least 2GB.
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s are now five and six years old when Apple, and will have seen four and five major operating system updates respectively. For comparison, flagship Android smartphones are lucky to see two.
If you've got an iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, or iPhone SE, you're still okay for now - your phone will get upgraded to iOS 13.
If you've still got an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or iPhone 5s, you might want to start thinking about upgrading. Your phone will keep working, but the reality is the longer you are without update support, the greater the chance an unresolved security flaw will turn up in your device. And hey, new features are always fun.
