Apple has announced it will hold is next developer conference will kick off on June 11 (AEST). Known as the Worldwide Developer Conference, or WWDC for short, the event is typically used to showcase Apple's major software updates for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Vision Pro.
The big story this year is expected to be generative AI, a space that Apple has lagged in when compared to Google and Samsung. During an earnings call at the start of February, CEO Tim Cook said generative AI features will make their way to Apple devices later this year. Reporting from Bloomberg suggests iOS 18 will be the largest-ever software update in the history of iPhone.
On top of AI features, iOS 18 is expected to bring support for RCS. RCS is a messaging standard that will allow higher-quality photo and video text messages for those not using iMessage.
While WWDC is primarily a software-focused event, Apple occasionally uses it to announce new hardware. Last year it revealed the Vision Pro, along with the 15-inch MacBook Air and second-generation Mac Studio.
