As Google gears up to bring its Gemini-powered AI agents to Android devices, the company has offered a sneak peek of how it plans to help its users keep an eye on that cutting-edge functionality.
This new feature – branded as Android Halo – was shown off at this year’s Google I/O conference and is due to arrive later in the year. Once it does roll out, Halo promises to offer at-a-glance visibility of any AI agent running on Android – be it Google’s own Gemini Spark or otherwise.
While additional details on the feature are expected to arrive later in the year, Google did release a teaser that depicts a Gemini icon perched in the top-left of the usual Android interface.
Assuming that this graphic is indicative of the final experience, it looks like that icon will move around and display brief text updates on what your device’s AI agents are getting up to in the background.
For those not familiar, Gemini Spark is Google’s take on OpenClaw. This is a relatively new type of AI-powered product that empowers a chatbot to take proactive and multi-step actions using relevant applications on your device – or at least those that exist within the wider Google ecosystem.
According to Google, Gemini Spark will roll out to “trusted testers” from this week, with US-based Google AI Ultra subscribers set to gain access to a beta from the week after that.
Today's announcement follows Google revealing key Android 17 features last week, which include Gemini app automations, easier ecosystem transfers, wider support for AirDrop and more.
