It's officially here! Unlike Artemis 1, the launch of the new iPhone 14 went off without a hitch and now all that's left is to make sure it's in your hot little hands as soon as possible. So how do you pre-order an iPhone 14? Well, keep reading because our guide has all the information you need to secure an iPhone 14 ASAP.
How do I pre-order the iPhone 14?
There are two different ways to secure yourself an iPhone 14 - either get one on a plan through the telco of your choice or buy one outright from Apple itself or a licensed store.
Whichever option you choose, to pre-order your iPhone you will need to follow these steps:
-
Decide if you want to buy it outright or on a plan,
-
Decide which version and size of the iPhone 14 you want and what extras you would like to include,
-
Either compare different providers and the plans they offer or compare different stores and see who has the best deal and most availability of your chosen model.
Note that telcos have been known to sweeten the deal with pre-order deals, so it is worth comparing to see which provider can give you the best bang for your buck.
Pre-ordering the iPhone 14 on a plan
If you want to get your iPhone 14 on a plan, you can get it through Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone. While we won't know exactly how the plans compare until pre-orders are live, we can make educated guesses based on how phone plans are constructed in Australia.
To calculate how much it is likely to cost, take the outright price of the iPhone 14 you're looking at, and divide it by how many months you'll pay it off over. Generally, that is either 24 or 36-months. Then add on the cost of the monthly SIM plan, and you'll get a good estimate of how much each provider's plan will cost.
When was the new iPhone 14 announced?
The official announcement of the new iPhone 14 happened for Australians in the early hours of Thursday, September 8th 2022. Even though we now know a whole lot more about the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, you still won't be able to get your hands on one until September 16.
Can I still get an iPhone 14 if I don't preorder?
If you want to get an iPhone 14 as soon as possible, pre-ordering is a good idea. New iPhones are sold on a first come first serve basis, and shipping estimates for popular models can slip quickly. You could be waiting weeks if you’re after a particularly popular model.
That being said, if you’re not in a rush, there’s no need to pre-order. The iPhone 14 family will go on sale on September 16 - bar the iPhone 14 Plus which will be on sale on October 7 - and some brick-and-mortar stores may even have stock on the day. Otherwise, as the initial demand drops off, you’ll easily be able to pick up an iPhone 14 whenever.
How much is the new iPhone 14?
There are a few different versions of the iPhone 14 - iPhone 14 (standard), iPhone 14 Plus (slightly larger), iPhone Pro (comes with a few extras) and iPhone Pro Plus (the larger version of the iPhone Pro). Each has its own advantages and increases in pricepoint the more features your iPhone has or size you add.
Here is a breakdown of their RRPs based on model and size capacity:
| iPhone Model | Size | Price |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 14 | 128GB | $1,399 |
| iPhone 14 | 256GB | $1,579 |
| iPhone 14 | 512GB | $1,899 |
| iPhone 14 Plus | 128GB | $1,579 |
| iPhone 14 Plus | 256GB | $1,749 |
| iPhone 14 Plus | 512GB | $2,099 |
| iPhone 14 Pro | 128GB | $1,749 |
| iPhone 14 Pro | 256GB | $1,899 |
| iPhone 14 Pro | 512GB | $2,249 |
| iPhone 14 Pro | 1TB | $2,599 |
| iPhone 14 Pro Max | 128GB | $1,899 |
| iPhone 14 Pro Max | 256GB | $2,099 |
| iPhone 14 Pro Max | 512GB | $2,419 |
| iPhone 14 Pro Max | 1TB | $2,769 |
What's the cheapest way to get an iPhone 14?
If you really want to upgrade but can't afford to fork out the $1,399 to $2,769 upfront, a plan is your best option. Telstra, Optus and Vodafone all offer plans for 12, 24 and 36-months. This way you get your shiny new iPhone 14 right away and pay it off more gradually than in one hit.
