Buying a new phone is exciting, that small box so full of promise, so full of cool tech, so full of beautiful and breakable parts. Keeping your new phone baby safe can be all-encompassing - you’re looking at cases, screen protectors and as a last pitch swing, insurance.
Of course there are plenty of insurance options out there, some you can add on to your plan or there are services for specific devices such as Apple Care, but if your new baby happens to be an OPPO then OPPO Care may be the right move.
In this guide we take a look at everything you need to know about OPPO’s in house insurance.

Manufacturer Warranty
It is important to note that every phone sold in Australia comes with a 12-month warranty as a minimum. This is required by law and encompasses any manufacturer fault that may cause damage or make the handset function in a less than ideal way.
Everything sold in Australia must be of ‘good and merchantable quality” which assumes that when you buy something it will perform as it is intended to perform. If during the warranty period the device, through no fault of your own, stops functioning properly or incurs damage as a result of the manufacturing then you are entitled to free repairs or a replacement.
Accidental damage, or damage that you make to the phone is not covered. This is generally where insurance steps in.
Which OPPO phones can be covered?
OPPO insurance is currently only available on the Find X2 Pro in Australia. The handset is available on plans from a range of providers or outright from the OPPO online store.
OPPO Screen Care
Serial screen breakers please raise your hands, no not the one with your phone in it… and you dropped it again didn’t you? OPPO Screen Care covers (you guessed it), accidental cracks and broken screens.
You can take out Screen Care for $99 (paid yearly) within 30 days from the purchase date of your Find X2 Pro, but you won’t be able to add it on if you miss this window. There is an insurance excess charge of $230 per claim, but at the time of writing you’ll get one screen replacement free within the first year of your coverage.
Ordinarily Find X2 Pro screen repairs go for $450, so even if we ignore that you get the first repair for free, you’ll still be better off to the tune of $121 by taking out OPPO Screen Care as opposed to going without.
If you're reading this on a cracked screen then read our guide on how and when to fix your display.
OPPO Extended Warranty
For anything else, there's the OPPO Extended Warranty which lengthens your warranty period by an additional year. For $99 you can have your Find X2 Pro insured for a grand total of three years which covers the 24-month international OPPO warranty and the 12-month extension.
This means that any necessary repairs during that time will be made free of charge, although an excess cost of $170 still applies.
What isn't covered?
There are of course limitations to OPPO Care, the insurance policy won’t cover your repairs under certain circumstances. These include, but are not limited to:
- General wear and tear
- Degradation of cosmetic features (like the wearing down of that sweet vegan leather)
- Loss and replacement of accessories such as charging cables, storage cards etc.
- Theft or loss
- Intentional damage
- Functional failures due to virus-infected software
Find X2 Pro out of warranty repair costs
Once your warranty runs out, or if the damage incurred to the device falls under any of the exemptions listed above then you'll need to pay out of pocket for repairs. In some cases it may be a cheaper option to just pay for the repair without using insurance and save yourself the $170 excess, but big ticket items like screens and cameras are almost always worth the price of insurance.
Here are the out of warranty repair prices for the OPPO Find X2 Pro, you can find the prices of other models here.
