Optus 5G modem

Curious about 5G home internet but don't want to commit? Optus has just the offer for you. Until the end of March, new customers can sign-up for a contract-free Optus 5G home internet plan without paying the normal $200 setup fee. In addition, you'll also get your first month of service free. As such, if you decide to leave within your first month, you won't have spent a single dollar - all you'll need to do is return your modem to Optus.

Optus has two 5G home internet plans: a $75 per month option with speeds capped to 100Mbps, and a $90 per month option with uncapped speeds, Fetch TV, and an Optus Sport subscription. Both plans have unlimited data. Optus reports typical evening speeds of 77Mbps on the $75 plan, and 225Mbps on the $90 per month plan. The speeds on the $90 plan line up with what we saw when we reviewed Optus 5G home internet this time last year.

At $90 per month, you're essentially getting the same kind of evening speeds as offered by an NBN 250 plan, but for the price of an NBN 100 plan. If you're in the Optus 5G footprint, it's certainly an attractive proposition.

Optus 5G home internet now covers over 700,000 homes across Australia. You can check out the Optus 5G coverage map here. Alternatively, you can use WhistleOut's coverage checker.

All you need to do is punch in your address when searching for a new phone plan. After you've done so and hit Search, you can jump straight to the coverage map by tapping See Coverage Map and then tapping Click To Activate Interactive Map.

This map will show you what kind of coverage you have in your area. 5G coverage is highlighted using the darkest shade of purple, but unticking 4G and 3G can help make it clearer. The drop down menu lets you choose between telcos.

Coverage maps are only approximate, only show outdoor coverage, and may be impacted by local conditions such as buildings.

To get this deal, you'll need to sign-up via the Optus website before the end of March.
