The new NBN plan prices will apply to new customers and existing customers from July 1. Existing customers will see their new plan charges on their next bill after that date.
If you're a Tangerine or More customer in a promotional period, you'll retain your existing discount, but it will be applied to the new base price instead.
Why is my NBN plan getting more expensive?
NBN providers are retailers for NBN Co, which operates the whole network. Each year, NBN Co adjusts wholesale pricing of NBN plans in line with the Consumer Price Index. This year, the majority of wholesale costs went up by between $2 to $3 per month.
Telcos like Tangerine and More then adjust their prices to follow suit. So far, Telstra, Optus, Aussie Broadband have also announced their price increases, while iiNet has already implemented them.
If it's been a while since you last reviewed your internet bill, then the next few weeks are a good time to sit down and take a look. Lots of NBN providers offer introductory pricing, which usually lasts at least six months. Plans usually have no lock-in contracts, so you're free to switch from one cheap plan to another — chasing the discounts to never pay full price.
In addition, some providers have already started running their End of Financial Year sales with longer-term deals.
