NBN Co has revealed its upcoming wholesale prices, which will see most NBN plans get more expensive from July 1. This will see the wholesale cost of most NBN plans increase by $1.08 per month and $4.04 per month.
Here's a look at the changes:
| Wholesale NBN plan | New price | Old price | Price increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| NBN 12 Basic Bundle | $12 | $12.01 | -$0.01 |
| NBN 12 | $35.59 | $33.47 | $2.12 |
| NBN 25 | $36.15 | $35.07 | $1.08 |
| NBN 50 | $57.60 | $55.26 | $2.34 |
| NBN 100/20 | $60.85 | $58.53 | $2.32 |
| NBN 100/40 | $64.60 | $61.53 | $3.07 |
| NBN 500 | $60.85 | $58.53 | $2.32 |
| NBN 750 | $67.12 | $63.93 | $3.19 |
| NBN 1000 | $75.88 | $73.93 | $1.95 |
| NBN 2000 | $119.04 | $115 | $4.04 |
This year's wholesale prices increases are steeper than last year, where the largest price increase was $1.71 per month. NBN Co increases prices annually, and is not able to increase prices more than the change in the Consumer Price Index.
It is important to note that these prices are what NBN Co charges internet providers, rather than what an individual household pays. Last year, we saw most providers increase their plan fees between $2 and $4 per month. Given the increases are steeper this year, it wouldn't be surprising to see providers lift prices further.
At the same time, providers can also choose not to pass along price increases to their customers. Last year, we saw several providers cut the price of their faster NBN plans, such as NBN 1000.
We're expecting to see NBN providers progressively announce their own price increases between now and July 1, when the price increases will take effect.
NBN Co Chief Customer Officer Anna Perrin suggested Australians should consider swapping to a different plan or provider in light of the price increases.
“We understand that price changes can raise questions for customers, which is why we encourage people to review their options and check they’re on the plan that best suits their needs and budget," said Perrin in a media release.
"Value and choice matter, and this is reflected in the strong choice amongst retailers, with more than 150 NBN providers offering a wide range of plans and price points for customers."
Below you can compare the cheapest NBN plans in WhistleOut's database, across popular speed tiers. Just note that pricing on all these plans will likely increase sometime in July.
