GeForce Now

Optus has announced that it be adding cloud gaming service NVIDIA GeForce Now to SubHub in the second half of the year.

GeForce Now connects to your existing PC game library (Steam and Epic Games are both support) and runs them on a beefy robust computer. This allows them to run at a higher quality than some machines would allow, or alternatively, on platforms that don’t support PC games. Mac and Android, for example.GeForce Now doesn't have a pre-existing game library like Xbox Cloud Gaming, for example.

Instead, you're effectively renting time on someone else's PC. A basic plan costs $3.99 per month, and gives you an unlimited number of 60 minute sessions. You are however booted after each 60 minute session and forced to re-queue for a new server slot. More expensive plans have longer session times.

GeForce Now is coming to Optus in partnership with Pentanet, who are the official reseller for service in Australia. Pentanet and Optus will also collaborate on a program that offers a "superior" experience for Optus customers using GeForce Now, with a specific focus on 5G.

GeForce Now will be integrated into Optus' SubHub subscription management platform. SubHub allows Optus customers to add third party subscriptions such as Netflix and Amazon Prime onto their monthly bill, rather than paying for multiple individual subscriptions. Discounts are given to customers who take up multiple subscriptions.

An Optus spokesperson told us GeForce Now pricing will be shared closer to launch in the second half of 2023. This means there's always the possibility Optus' pricing will be different to the options currently offered by Pentanet. No other telcos will be able to sell GeForce Now during Optus' exclusivity period.

Telstra has its own gaming partnership with Microsoft, where it is the sole reseller of Xbox All Access in Australia.
