School holidays are a great time to catch up with friends, family, and those shows you keep putting off watching. But with more people at home taking up couch space and bandwidth, you might find that your NBN connection isn’t quite cutting it.
In the most recent Measuring Broadband Report, the ACCC reported on the best NBN speed tiers for HD and UHD Netflix viewing. Every speed tier from NBN 25 upward should be able to stream one screen of 4K Netflix without buffering, but if you’re a multi-screen household your luck stops there.
Here are the best NBN plans to support streaming Netflix on multiple devices according to the ACCC.
Single stream households
NBN 25
NBN 25 plans come with a maximum download speed of 25Mbps and are the second slowest speed tier available with fixed line NBN. During testing the ACCC found that 100% of NBN 25 plans can support one screen of UHD (or 4K) Netflix, but only 79.6% can support two.
Odds are you could get two reliable streams out of an NBN 25 plan, but this doesn’t take into account any additional bandwidth that may be used at the same time. If you’re browsing online or someone else in the house is in a TikTok spiral, then the chances that the second stream will run seamlessly get lower.
In saying that, NBN 25 plans are a good cost-saving option for smaller households or ones with lower speed demands. Tangerine currently offers the best value NBN 25 plan in our database thanks to a timed discount. For your first six months with the provider, you’ll get a $10 discount, bringing the cost down to $44.90 per month. It is entirely contract-free so if you decide that Tangerine isn’t the right provider for you or that NBN 25 is too slow, then you can leave at any time.

Dual stream households
NBN 50 or NBN 100
For households that regularly stream on one or two screens at once, either an NBN 50 or NBN 100 plan is going to be the best option. Yeah, it’s a weird one. Let me explain.
According to the ACCC report, of the NBN 50 connections tested 99.7% of them could stream 4K Netflix on one screen - yeah that is less than NBN 25 connections, but this number includes underperforming and impaired services. 97.3% of these connections could handle two 4K streams and then 87.1% could handle three. Once again the odds are pretty good that your NBN 50 plan could stream one or two streams unless there is a fault somewhere.
Currently, SpinTel has the best value NBN 50 plan, with typical evening speeds sitting at the 50Mbps maximum. For the first six months, you’ll get a $10.95 discount, bringing the price down to $54 per month, before it goes back up to $64.95 from the seventh month on. Since this is a contract-free plan you can cancel anytime you like without any additional fees.

100% of NBN 100 plans on the other hand were found to be able to stream 4K on two screens simultaneously. The third screen drops down to 99.5%, then 96.7% on the fourth, and 91.2% on the fifth. If you have a household large enough to need to stream 4K on 2 - 4 screens then an NBN 100 plan is your best bet.
Our Editor’s Pick for NBN 100 plans this month is MyRepublic’s NBN Home Fast Plan. For the first six months, it will only cost you $69 per month before the price increases back to $79 per month thereafter. While you can leave without paying any exit fees at any time, MyRepublic also has a 30 Day Satisfaction guarantee which lets you cancel your plan and have your plan fees refunded within the first 30 days if it doesn’t live up to expectations.

Multiple stream households
NBN 250
Households with extreme streaming needs may want to consider an NBN 250 plan. 100% of these plans can handle up to six 4K streams simultaneously. Six TVs does sound excessive but if you like to live a life of excess, or maybe you run a gym, then an NBN 250 plan may be the right call for fast internet speed.
Tangerine dropped the price of its NBN 250 plan down to $94.90 per month for the first six months. After the discount expires you’ll pay $109.90 on this plan with typical evening speeds of 205Mbps.
