Aussie Broadband has completed its acquisition of energy provider AGL’s telco business, adding approximately 350,000 services to its customer base. This includes NBN, mobile, and voice customers from AGL and Southern Phone, which AGL acquired back in 2019.
AGL telco customers will be migrated to Aussie Broadband in the second half of the year.
AGL will continue to promote telco products under its brand, but Aussie Broadband will supply the services and customer experience. As part of the agreement, AGL will still offer bundles that combine both telco and energy. In addition, an Aussie Broadband spokesperson told WhistleOut the telco will continue to operate Southern Phone as a standalone brand.
While AGL will continue to market telco products via its existing channels, it is not yet clear what Aussie Broadband’s acquisition will mean for Southern Phone.
Aussie Broadband’s acquisition of AGL’s telco business follows a deal it made with Tangerine and More last year, which has seen customers of the sibling providers move onto Aussie Broadband's wholesale network. Aussie Broadband says it expects to finish migrating customers by the end of the month.
When the AGL and Tangerine customer migrations are complete, Aussie Broadband is set to become the third-largest NBN provider.
