TPG and iiNet have updated their mobile plans in a move that will see each telco offer identical pricing to new customers.
Existing customers with auto-renewal will be able to keep recharging to their current plan but new customers will need to choose one of the new options.
New customers who sign up for a 50GB or 100GB plan will be able to save $5 per month on an ongoing basis after the initial six-month discount if they're signed up for an eligible internet plan with the respective telco.
Here's what TPG's older plans looked like:
| Plan data | Full price | Discounted price |
|---|---|---|
| 12GB Plan | $20 per month | $10 for the first six months |
| 25GB Plan | $25 per month | $12.50 for the first six months |
| 45GB Plan | $30 per month | $15 for the first six months |
| 60GB Plan | $40 per month | $20 for the first six months |
The new lineup consists of a 25GB option as well as a 50GB and 100GB plan to replace its 45GB and 60GB plans.
Here's a look at TPG's new plans:
The 100GB plan provides the best bang for buck coming in at $0.45 of value per GB on the full price. Generally, anything below at least $1 per GB is a good deal.
Here's a look at what iiNet previously offered to new customers:
| Plan data | Full price | Discounted price |
|---|---|---|
| 8GB Plan | $19.99 per month | $10 for the first six months |
| 16GB Plan | $24.99 per month | $12.50 for the first six months |
| 40GB Plan | $29.99 per month | $15 for the first six months |
| 55GB Plan | $39.99 per month | $20 for the first six months |
Here's a look at iiNet's new plans:
Compared to the old iiNet plans, the new plans offer significantly better value for money. On the previously available 8GB and 16GB plans, customers were essentially paying more than $1.50 per GB. Now on the cheapest plan, you won't pay more than $1 per GB.
A long-standing 5G network trial was available on both telco's most expensive plans. Now, each offers 5G access on the 50GB and 100GB plans. The 50GB plan has a speed cap of 150Mbps while the more expensive 100GB plan is capped at 250Mbps.
The move follows a pattern of TPG Telecom consolidating and streamlining its various telco brands.
The company began the process of moving its Internode and Westnet customers across to iiNet earlier this year.
TPG Telecom owns and operates Vodafone, iiNet, felix, AAPT and Lebara Mobile in addition to its namesake.
Update 07/08/24: Updated to note that existing TPG and iiNet customers with auto-renewal can stay on their current recharge.
Here are SIM-only mobile plans with at least 25GB of data, that are popular the most popular with WhistleOut users this week:
