Telstra is adding three new affordable Alcatel devices to its range of prepaid phones: the Alcatel 1X, the "Telstra Superior Powered by Alcatel", and the "Telstra Essential Plus Powered by Alcatel".
The Telstra Superior - a rebadged Alcatel 3V - is available now, while the other two devices will go on sale from September 4. They'll join the Alcatel 1C in Telstra's prepaid family, which the telco has been steadily rebuilding since it was forced to drop ZTE smartphones due to sanctions imposed on the manufacturer by the US government.

Since the trio are prepaid devices, they'll be locked to the Telstra network. This means you won't be able to take it to another provider without forking out a bit of extra cash. If you want to unlock your shiny new handset within the first six months, you're looking at an $80 fee. If you're happy to wait, the fee gets cut to $25 after six months. After two years, you'll be able to unlock your phone for free.
