Optus prepaid customers may soon get their plans for a song with the telco today announcing it will make a number of music streaming service data free on prepaid plans.
Services including iHeartRadio, Spotify, Google Play Music, Pandora and Guvera are included in the offer meaning streaming from these services will not count against the data allowance for customers on My Prepaid Ultimate and My Prepaid Daily Plus plans.
“As smart phones become even smarter, customers are increasingly turning to their mobiles for entertainment. With 78% of 16-34 year olds already enjoying music streaming, it makes sense for Optus to partner with some of the most sought after streaming services,” said Optus Managing Director of Marketing and Product Ben White.
Prepaid customers will also gain access to a number of different music-related experiences and offers, including exclusive concerts.
How much will you save?
The value of this offer will obviously vary from customer to customer, but there is the potential to save a bunch of money by choosing a cheaper, lower value plan than you might have otherwise.
Based on information from Spotify, streaming music uses about 1MB per minute. If you stream music for an hour a day, you would chew through 1.8GB per month.
If a customer usually recharged with a $40 My Prepaid Ultimate plan including 4GB, they might now choose a $30 My Prepaid Ultimate plan with 1.5GB, saving $10 per recharge.
