Optus CEO designate Kelly Bayer Rosmarin said: “These are unprecedented times, and we want to help Australians who find themselves having to self-isolate or work from home to stay connected".
Eligible postpaid customers will receive a once-off data add on of 20GB during April 2020, while prepaid customers will get 10GB more on a $40 recharge.
“We understand how much it means to customers to stay connected with their colleagues, classmates, family and friends,” said Optus in a statement on Friday. “Access to data is critical, so we are playing our part in helping the community with our additional data offer.”
Of the three Australian telcos, Optus are the first to offer additional services in relation to COVID-19. Neither Vodafone, nor Telstra are offering virus-specific assistance for customers at this time.
While a Vodafone spokesperson said the company would continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds, the company reiterated its current financial hardship framework saying that it is available for any customers who may require it.
Optus customers will be able to redeem the offer through the My Optus app until Friday, March 20.
