Upstart smartphone manufacturer OnePlus will commence Australian sales with a soft launch starting at 10am on August 29. If you want to get your hands on a OnePlus 5, you're looking at $599 for a configuration with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, or $699 for a configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Both configurations will come with a free case during the soft launch period.
Since the launch is "soft", sales are limited to one phone per customer. OnePlus also says that the current pricing will only apply to the soft launch period, and may change with wider availability.

The OnePlus 5 is quite similar in look and feel to OPPO's R11 (the same parent company owns both brands), but has different hardware under the hood. Key specifications include a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of non-expandable storage, a 3,300mAh battery, a front-facing fingerprint reader, and a USB Type-C connector. It runs a customised take on Android dubbed Oxygen OS.
As with the OPPO R11, the OnePlus 5 has a dual rear-facing camera configuration, made up of a 16MP sensor and a 20MP sensor. By swapping between the two lenses, the OnePlus 5 is able to simulate zoom.
The OnePlus 5 being sold during the soft launch period won't come with an Australian charger (you'll get a UK plug in the box) but it does support Australian bands and come with a two-year warranty. The OnePlus 5 supports the following local telco bands:
Optus:?
- GSM: Band 8?
- UMTS: Bands 1/8?
- LTE: Bands 1/3/7/28/40?
Telstra:?
- GSM: Band 3/8?
- UMTS: Bands 1/8?
- LTE: Bands 1/3/7/28?
Vodafone:?
- GSM: Band 3/8?
- UMTS: Bands 1/5/8?
- LTE: Bands 3/5
The 64GB OnePlus 5 is available in a choice of grey or gold, while the 128GB OnePlus 5 comes in either black or grey.
