Huawei recently became one of the brands to beat in terms of smartphone photography, and the newly announced P30 Pro is a major step forward thanks to extreme lowlight capabilities and enhanced zoom. But just how good is Huawei's latest?
We've taken the P30 Pro on a photography tour of Paris to find out.
This time around, you'll find four cameras on the back of the P30 Pro. The setup includes the following:
- A 40MP primary lens, with an aperture of f/1.6
- A 20MP ultra-wide angle lens with an aperture with f/2.2 and aspherical optics from Leica said to reduce fish-eye distortion (equivalent to 0.6x zoom)
- A 8MP telephoto lens with an aperture of f/3.4 (for 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and up to 50x digital zoom)
- A Time of Flight lens to assist with measuring depth for portrait mode
On first impression, we've been really impressed with the Huawei P30 Pro. It can take usable photos in almost pitch black situations, and the deep level of zoom makes it an incredibly versatile camera.
The P30 Pro is available from Telstra, Optus and Vodafone and we have all of the plans and deals listed in our Huawei P30 and P30 Pro comparison page.

The Louvre, just before midnight. This was shot using the P30 Pro's Night Mode.

This shot comes from the P30 Pro's 5x zoom telephoto lens.

Another shot from 5x zoom telephoto lens.

This was shot using the P30 Pro's ultra-wide angle lens. There's surprisingly little fisheye distortion.

Paris has some real dramatic architecture, hey?

Good initials. This shot was captured using 10x hybrid zoom.

Notre Dame via the P30 Pro's monochrome setting.

They’ll hang us in the Louvre. Down the back, but who cares — still the Louvre. Another ultra-wide angle shot.

This shot of the moon was taken use the P30 Pro's 50x digital zoom. It could be sharper, but I still can't over the fact it was taken on a smartphone.

When in Paris. Another shot from 5x zoom telephoto lens.

Another night mode shot. You can actually see stars!

Just saying, this was a really good tart.

A terrifying horse, via the 5x zoom.

10x hybrid zoom on a street light.

I really love this photo. It was shot out the window of a moving car. Despite this, the tower itself is awfully sharp.

5x zoom on Notre Dame.

Another ultra-wide angle shot of the Lourve, this time using night mode.
