Google's Daydream View virtual reality headset will go on sale locally from November 10, priced at $119.
Daydream is Google's new smartphone-driven virtual reality platform, and the successor to Google Cardboard. Much like Samsung's Gear VR, Daydream is designed to offer more of an immersive virtual reality experience, where you're able to interact with 360-content, rather than simply look around.
While Samsung's Gear VR has a touchpad built into the headset, Daydream View comes bundled with a Wiimote-like controller. In addition to two buttons and a clickable touchpad for scrolling and swiping, the Daydream controller has an orientation sensor to measure where it's pointing and how it's turning.
Daydream View is made from an active-wear like material to ensure a comparatively light and comfortable build. Notably, glasses-wearers don't have to take off their spectacles to use the headset.
At the moment, Daydream View is only compatible with Google's Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, but other Android manufacturers will be able to build Daydream-ready devices. Once a phone is in place, it pairs to the Daydream headset wirelessly.
Apps including YouTube VR, Google Play Movies, Star Chart VR, Wall Street Journal VR, Street View VR, Danger Goat, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be available within the first few weeks of Daydream View's availability.
Daydream View bundles will be available directly through Google's online store, or through JB Hi-Fi and Telstra.
