If you're not fussed about owning the latest and greatest iPhone but still want an iPhone, JB Hi-Fi is flogging off 2014's iPhone 6 for cheap: $399 will get you a 32GB iPhone 6 on Telstra prepaid. To get the offer, you'll need to head into a JB Hi-Fi; it's not available online.
Since the phone is being sold on as a prepaid device, it's locked to Telstra's network, which means you won't be able to take it to another provider (in Australia and overseas) without forking out a bit of extra cash. If you want to unlock your shiny new iPhone 6 within the first six months, you're looking at an $80 fee. If you're happy to wait, the fee gets cut to $25 after six months. After two years, you'll be able to unlock the phone for free.
The 32GB iPhone 6 configuration is a reasonably new model released by Apple last year (when it launched, the iPhone 6 was available in 16GB and 64GB configurations). Rather than selling it directly, the 32GB iPhone 6 is only available through retail partners.
While the iPhone 6 is almost four years old now, it's still being supported by Apple. In fact, the newly announced iOS 12 is designed to speed up older devices when it rolls around in September. We don't know how long Apple will keep updating the iPhone 6's software for, but we wouldn't be surprised if it gets upgraded to iOS 13 in 2019.
Telstra's prepaid plans are as follows:
