As part of its announcement of new My Plans, Optus has said that existing customers will be able to switch to its new plans without needing to recommit to a new contract.
"If a customer is on an existing $60 plan, still in their contract, they can move across to the equivalent $60 plan," said Vicki Brady, Managing Director of Customer Relations at Optus.
"Obviously any handset repayments and the contract term continues on as is, but they have the flexibility to move."
Brady also said that the telco will be "proactively" finding customers who would benefit from a move to the new plans and suggesting they change once the new plans come into effect on July 1.
Existing Optus mobile customers will get the benefit of an additional monthly data allowance when they re-contract with Optus on the $50 or $60 MyPlan as compared to the data allowances offered to new customers. On the new $50 Optus MyPlan for example, the included data for new customers is 500MB per month whereas recontracting Optus customers will be given 1GB per month for 24 months. You can check out our comparison for all of the new customer data allowances.
