Telstra network MVNO Boost has made two changes to its pre-paid plans today, one a standard value increase, while the other is something a bit more unique.
Customers recharging with a $40 UNLTD offer will now get 3GB of data to use in 30-days, up from 2.5GB. This is a handy increase and should help Boost look like better value next to other cost-effective MVNO options, like amaysim and Jeenee Mobile.
But it is a data bonus to be used on on Sundays which has us scratching our heads a little. $40 UNLTD recharge customers get a bonus 1GB each Sunday, while $20 UNLTD customers get 500MB.
The bonuses are applied every Sunday, and expire at 11:59pm at the end of the same day. Therefore, if you budget your downloads with this in mind, you could enjoy up to 7GB of data per month for just $40 (plus unlimited calls and messages).
This is a pretty strange idea. Not that we’re complaining, any data is good data, but it makes us wonder what Boost knows about data use and the first day of the week. Do customers use more on Sundays and need a top-up? Do we use less and Boost knows that while the bonus looks good, no one will actually use it?
