Boost Mobile is gearing up for Christmas this year with a new low-cost smartphone with a nifty trick up its sleeve.
The new Boost DEX is available now for $99 and comes with “some gnarly DJ software”, according to the Boost website. This on top of a capable sounding Android phone with a 5-inch screen.
There’s no indication of specifically which DJ software you get with the Dex, but at a guess it is probably the same software found in the Alcatel OneTouch - a phone made by the same company behind the Dex. To get a feel for how it works, we’ve put in a quick YouTube video below. It looks like a lot of fun, and you get the option to record your hard work if you use songs stored locally on the device, which is pretty cool.
The DEX also comes with a 5-megapixel camera on the back, and a 2-megapixel selfie camera on the front. Of course, you probably should;’t expect too much from cameras on phones in this price range.
It is powered by a 1GHz processor and runs on Android Marshmallow.
That the phone is made by Alcatel is a sign of some quality. Alcatel a company that pretty much owns the low-cost Android smartphone segment. We’ve taken a look at a couple of Alcatel-made phones from Boost before and they always punch above their weight, and affordable price tag. Here’s hoping the Dex follows suit.
Here’s the video of the DJ software in action. Remember, this isn’t the DEX in the video, so the experience could be different.
