Android users can now get scam and spam monitoring on mobile-based instant messaging apps through Bitdefender’s Mobile Security for Android.
Scam and spam text messages have become ubiquitous, not only through traditional SMS but through online instant messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, and Telegram. Bitdefender’s Mobile Security for Android now comes with real-time chat protection which immediately alerts users if malicious links are exchanged on a range of these IM applications.
Bitdefender’s Mobile Security scans messages from WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram and Discord, and will cost you $23.34 AUD for the first year. The price for subsequent years is subject to change.
The prevalence of messaging scams has made headlines over the past couple of years, with these scams noted as one of the top threats to mobile users. According to research done by Bitdefender in 2021, 85% of malicious URLs come from untrustworthy domains and spam.
Major provider Telstra has even employed its own anti-scam tech through the Cleaner Pipes initiative for its customers. While this program is free to all Telstra mobile users, it only blocks traditional SMS with suspicious links or phone numbers.
Along with spam monitoring, Bitdefender’s Mobile Security subscription also comes with a VPN that can encrypt 200MB of traffic per day, the ability to remotely locate, lock and wipe your device in case of loss or theft, plus a host of anti-virus and anti-malware features. If you haven’t already guessed, this service is only available on Android devices and can be downloaded through Google Play or direct from Bitdefender.
