Xiaomi recently unveiled the POCO F9 Ultra, a collaboration with Bose that features a subwoofer for improved bass performance. While previous POCO phones have featured subwoofers, this is the first time Australia is getting a slice of the pie. Most modern flagship and mid-range phones typically sport dual stereo speakers, so a separate speaker for bass is an unusual addition.
Subwoofers are specialised loudspeakers designed to produce low-frequency audio. In a phone, it's likely to reproduce those deep, rich bass notes, adding a layer of depth and power to your music soundtracks and video game sound effects.
Xiaomi says the POCO F9 Ultra also includes dual symmetrical master-grade stereo speakers and professionally tuned sound profiles for when users prefer fuller bass or a more balanced and vocal-focused listening experience.
The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship processor and features a "3D IceLoop" cooling system, which Xiaomi says keeps graphics-intensive games running smoothly.
The POCO F9 Ultra is a tank, boasting a massive 8,050mAh battery, with support for 100W Wired and 50W Wireless HyperCharge, as well as 27W wired and 22.5W wireless reverse charging. It’s one of the largest batteries we’ve seen in any phone locally, and it is said to last up to two days per charge. The battery is almost as big as Xiaomi's Redmi Note 17 Pro, which clocks in at 8,340mAh, but bigger than the 7,500mAh cell found in the OPPO Find X9 Pro.
The POCO F9 Ultra is built around a 6.9-inch display with a 185Hz refresh rate and 4,500 nits of peak brightness. As for the camera, the POCO F9 Ultra is the first phone in the POCO line to feature a 200MP primary lens. It's also host to a 32MP front camera, 50MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP 5x periscope telephoto camera that is capable of 20x AI Ultra Zoom.
The POCO F9 Ultra will get four Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates. It's available to pre-order in Dark Cherry or Black with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for $1,499. Pre-orders are open from now and run until September 10.
