Customers on Vodafone’s Red plans can now travel to several major Asian countries with the same piece of mind about their phone bill that they currently have in the US, UK, New Zealand and parts of Europe.
The telco today announced it will add China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan and Thailand to the list of destinations that cost $5 per day to roam using a customer’s domestic monthly phone service allowances.
The changes will come in to effect on January 23. Vodafone is reminding customers that they need to opt-in for Red roaming before they travel to take advantage of the $5 pricing.
Adding these six new countries to the Red roaming offer is definitely a boost for Vodafone in this space, and puts in better standing beside Optus and its “two zone” world roaming price categories.
The big difference now between Optus and Vodafone is the cost of data overseas. Vodafone customers using this offer can use as much data as they have on their account at home for $5 per day. Optus customers will pay $0.50 per MB when roaming in Zone 1 countries, which include the most popular destinations.
Telstra customers have a different option again, with the telco selling pre-paid roaming data packs, starting from $29 for 100MB.
