Following an initial announcement in April, Telstra today launched its new Frequent Flyer style rewards scheme: Telstra Plus. Under the program, Telstra customers earn 10 points per dollar they spend on their monthly bill - including postpaid mobile, prepaid, and internet.
Customers can spend the points on selected gadgets, or use points for a discount on devices.
If you're a Telstra Plus member, you'll be able to start redeeming points for gadgets in July. While Telstra is yet to detail the entire range of rewards, it provided the following examples:
- Google Home Mini: 14,000 points
- Netgear Nighthawk M2: 15,000 points + $215
- Telstra TV 3: 40,000 points + $115
- Samsung Galaxy Buds: 44,000 points + $72
- Samsung Galaxy Watch 42mm (4G): 60,000 Points + $240
Telstra has yet to confirm how many points you'll need to spend to get a discount on a smartphone, but will be making this available soon.
At present, every Telstra Plus reward is hardware-based, but Big T is considering letting customer put their points toward plans later on.
In addition to the points system, Telstra Plus has a tier system based on your average monthly spend on Telstra plans across a year.
All members will have access to discounted movie and sports tickets, and pre-sale tickets for gigs and more. These are the same perks that were previously part of Telstra Thanks, which is being rolled into Telstra Plus over the next few weeks.
Silver members (spending an average of $125 month) will receive a one-off Telstra Platinum tech support call per year, $75 of Telstra TV Box Office credit, and a one-month subscription to Kayo basic.
Gold members (spending an average of $250 per month) will receive ongoing access to Telstra Platinum, $110 of Telstra TV Box Office credit, and a three-month subscription to Kayo basic.
Platinum is Telstra's premium support service, and also encompasses generic tech support issues, in addition to typical Telstra issues.
Here's an example of how a family could earn and redeem points:

All Telstra customers are eligible to join Telstra Plus, but the program is opt-in. Customers who sign up before June 29 will receive somewhere between 1,000 and 10,000 bonus points, depending on how long they've been with Telstra. Points will expire after three years, on a rolling basis.
