Chinese smartphone manufacturer Realme is set to start selling its devices in Australia later this month. We don't know which Realme smartphones will be available locally yet, but the company says the initial wave will include four smartphones, priced between $200 to $500.
At present, Realme has five smartphones (and one special edition device) in its range, so it sounds like we'll be getting a fairly comprehensive offering. Realme will confirm the exact devices at an "official launch party" on October 17.
We're guessing one of them will be the Realme X, the company's current "hero" phone. The Realme X has a surprising amount of bells and whistles for an affordable device, including a pop-up selfie camera and in-screen fingerprint reader. Other key specifications include a 6.5-inch 1080p+ display, a Snapdragon 710 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and the same 48MP rear-facing camera we've seen in devices like the OPPO Reno Z and Motorola One Vision.
If the Realme X is indeed Australia-bound, we'd expect it to sell for around $500 based on international pricing.

The Realme X is also available in a "Master Edition", with gradiented rear-glass designs inspired by garlic and onions. Sadly they don't have a scratch and sniff finish. We certainly hope Realme isn't a coward and brings these two tasty variants to our shores.
Notably, Realme was first started as a subsidiary of OPPO, but it is now its own independent company, albeit still part of the BBK Electronics group which also includes Vivo and OnePlus. Despite Realme's separation from OPPO, its smartphones are still powered by OPPO's customised take on Android, ColorOS.
Realme phones will only be available online initially, through retailers including JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Bing Lee, Amazon, eBay, Mobileciti, and Realme's own website.
