An Optus outage has disrupted mobile services for some customers, leaving them with limited connectivity. Optus confirmed the issue in a statement, but said most customers should be able restore connectivity by restarting their phones.
"If customers see 'No Service' or 'SOS' on their device, they are advised to restart their phone, to restore service," said an Optus spokesperson. The spokesperson said the issue does not prevent customers from calling Triple Zero.
"We are actively working with our partner Ericsson and have noticed a significant decline in the number of customers impacted. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank our customers for their patience while we continue to investigate. "
WhistleOut understands that around 220,000 customers were initially impacted by the outage, but this has now dropped to around 120,000. Down Detector shows that Optus customers started reporting issues as early as 6pm yesterday.
The issue seemingly impacts customers at random, rather than affecting certain network towers or geographic locations. Two Optus customers could have been sitting side by side, and one may have lost service while the other would be able to keep using their device normally.
