Australian 5G networks may still be a work in progress, but OPPO has committed to launching a 5G smartphone later this year with Telstra and Optus. This makes it the first 5G smartphone confirmed for the Optus, and the second for Telstra - following the Galaxy S10 5G earlier this week.
While OPPO was scant on details regarding the device itself, it will be powered by Qualcomm's latest mobile chipset - the Snapdragon 855 - and it will have 10x lossless zoom camera technology. Everything else is up for grabs. Including pricing and availability.

OPPO is however spending big on 5G, having invested over USD$1.5 billion in research and development to date.
"OPPO has been anticipating and preparing for the arrival of 5G since 2015 and has invested in design and technology to ensure the production of a desirable smartphone that doesn’t compromise on functionality to accommodate 5G features and benefits," said OPPO Australia Managing Director, Michael Tran.
Hopefully this means OPPO's first 5G smartphone won't fall prey to the sorts of issues we saw with early 4G devices, such as garbage battery life.
