Apple has some bad news for you if you're still using an iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR. The trio of devices can't upgrade to iOS 26, the newly released version of the iPhone operating system.
In addition to missing out on new features, the move means the phones are unlikely to get any future security and stability updates after iOS 26 launches.
The iPhone XS and iPhone XR were released in 2018 with iOS 12, and have seen six major operating system updates.
If you've got an iPhone 11 or the second-generation iPhone SE, you're still okay for now - your phone can upgrade to iOS 26. All newer devices naturally still get the upgrade.
If you're still using an iPhone XS or iPhone XR, you may want to consider upgrading. While your phone will keep working (Apple only just cut off the iPhone 5 from iCloud this week), the reality is the longer you are without mainline update support, the greater the chance an unresolved security flaw will turn up in your device. And hey, new features and new gadgets are always fun.
