The ninth generation of Google's flagship Pixel range has landed. You'll find nearly everything you need to know about the super-sized Pixel 9 Pro XL, right here.
As the name suggests the Pixel 9 Pro XL is the largest device in the new range with the battery specs to match, and it's available right now.
If you're looking for the smaller Pixel 9 Pro, note that it won't be available until later this year. There's no firm date yet, but Google has said it will arrive in Australia during spring.
Pixel 9 Pro XL plans
The Pixel 9 Pro XL is available on Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone mobile plans. Each offers the new handset on 24- and 36-month repayments.
A 36-month repayment term can bring your monthly cost down to a more manageable number. A 24-month repayment term is a good middle ground as you get full ownership of your Pixel 9 Pro XL faster without paying too much.
Note that Telstra's mobile plans will get between $3 per month and $4 per month more expensive from August 27. If you pre-order your Pixel 9 Pro XL through Telstra, you'll get a price increase by your second monthly bill.

The "standard" Pixel 9 Pro isn't available to pre-order yet. Google says it will launch in Australia sometime during spring this year.
Pre-orders for the Pixel 9 Pro XL might be over, but there are still some deals to be had.
Optus: Optus customers who buy a Pixel 9 Pro XL on a plan will save $800. This is divided by the length of your repayment term. On a 36-month plan, this is a saving of $22.22 per month. This deal runs until September 3.Telstra: If you order your Pixel 9 Pro XL through Telstra before September 9, you'll save $750. This works out to be a discount of $21.38 per month on a 36-month plan.
Customers new to Telstra can get a whole host of streaming offers when they sign up for a Pixel 9 XL Pro plan. This includes four months of free access to Spotify Premium, two months of access to Binge, three months of access to Flash, and two weeks of Kayo. There's no end date for this offer.

Pixel 9 Pro XL features
The name might be new, but the Pixel Pro 9 XL is the successor to last year's Pixel 8 Pro. It has a similar size, but there's now a smaller "Pro" Pixel 9 to go alongside it.
In terms of what's new, you get your fairly standard updates to the camera and processing, as well as a bit of a redesign.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL comes in four colourways, black (Obsidian), white (Porcelain), pink (Rose Quartz) and green (Hazel).
Pixel 9 Pro XL design
The Pixel 9 Pro XL is the largest phone in the core range with a 6.8-inch display. This makes it slightly larger than last year's Pixel 8 Pro (which was 6.7 inches).
As a whole, the line is more squared-off than previous models, although the camera bar which was previously an
end-to-end strip along the back is now a pill shape with space on either side. As with last year's models, the display is protected with Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Pixel 9 Pro XL camera
As with the Pixel 8 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 50MP primary lens, 48MP ultra-wide lens and 48MP telephoto lens. The 48MP ultra-wide lens has been upgraded, however, and the front-facing camera gets a big boost up to 42MP from 10.5MP on last year's models.
In our testing, we found the Pixel 9 Pro XL had the best camera setup of any Android phone.

Pixel 9 Pro XL battery
Slightly bigger in size, slightly bigger in battery. The Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 5,060mAh battery, 10mAh more than last year's Pro model. While only a slight improvement, it's still the largest battery in the range. The base Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro come with a 4,700mAh battery while th Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a 4,650mAh battery.
In our testing, we found the Pixel 9 Pro XL could comfortably last a full day of moderate usage with a decent buffer. It's the best battery we've seen on a Pixel yet.
Pixel 9 Pro XL processor
Each of the new phones features the latest processor from Google, the Tensor G4 - it should result in 20% browsing, 17% faster app launching and improvements in battery efficiency. The Pro XL has 16GB of RAM now compared to 12GB on the Pixel 8 Pro.
Pixel 9 Pro XL 5G
As is common to almost every phone these days, the Pixel 9 Pro XL has 5G connectivity. You can use the map below to check what kind of coverage is available in your area.
Note: 5G coverage maps are only approximate, only show outdoor coverage, and may be impacted by local conditions such as buildings.
Unlike the previous Pro models, the Pixel 9 Pro XL does not have 5G mmWave technology. However, that's not too much of a worry as its availability is pretty limited in Australia.
Pixel 9 Pro XL eSIM
As with last year's phones, the Pixel 9 Pro XL device supports eSIM. There's still a Nano SIM slot if you prefer to use a physical SIM. An eSIM makes switching telcos easier. For example, you don't have to wait for a new SIM to arrive in the mail or pick up one from a store, you can just connect to WiFi and get set up from the comfort of your own home.

Pixel 9 Pro XL plan providers
Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone are all stocking the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Here's a breakdown of the major benefits each provider offers.
Telstra Pixel 9 Pro XL plans
Telstra's Pixel 9 Pro XL plans are the priciest on the Australian market, but they do pack in a fair amount of extra benefits.
Telstra lets you pay your Pixel 9 Pro XL off over 12, 24, or 36-month periods. Each Telstra plan has unlimited data. This means once you use up your allowance your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps instead of you being charged for excess data.
Optus Pixel 9 Pro XL plans
Optus' Pixel 9 Pro XL plans come with decent data inclusions and a couple of bonus perks. Its top-of-the-line plans also have unlimited international calls to selected destinations.
All of Optus' mobile plans are contract-free, and devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months.
Like Telstra, Optus' postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, your plan is slowed to 1.5Mbps.
Vodafone Pixel 9 Pro plans
Vodafone Pixel 9 Pro XL plans are the cheapest between all the telcos when you choose the 36-month repayment period and they also come with the best bundling options.
If you have a Vodafone mobile plan, you can get most of the telco's internet plans - NBN, 5G home internet, and 4G home internet - at a discounted rate.
Vodafone customers also save when bundling multiple postpaid mobile plans. You'll get a 5% discount on your total mobile bill for each plan on your account after the first. This discount maxes out at 20% and doesn't include handset repayments.
Vodafone postpaid plans also have unlimited data. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped at 2Mbps. Vodafone has a great option for taking your Aussie number overseas. Its $5 a day roaming lets you access your full plan inclusions overseas.
How to choose the best Pixel 9 Pro XL plan for you
Here's what you should keep in mind when comparing Pixel 9 Pro XL plans:
- How much data you need. Knowing how much mobile data do you use means you'll avoid overspending. There's no point in getting the plan with the largest data allowance if you only use 20GB a month.
- Repayment period. Decide whether you want to pay off your phone over a shorter 12-month period but pay more per month or opt for a longer repayment period like 24 and 36 months and lower your monthly bill.
- International roaming and other perks. Consider what international roaming inclusions you want your plan to come with and if there are any other perks you value such as free streaming subscriptions, discounts and more.
