Following the launch of OVO's $100 for 100GB mobile broadband plan earlier this month, the tiny telco has slashed its price to $69.95 citing high demand. OVO says the plan's popularity has allowed it to drop the price. Customers who have already paid for their first month will receive a $30 credit.
The $100GB plan is offered as a 30-day recharge, and customers who require a 4G mode have the option of paying $59 extra when signing up for a Huawei E5573s. This will attract a $12 delivery fee.
OVO CEO Matt Jones says the company is pitching the plan as a response to the frustrations around NBN.
"Despite the billions being spent on upgrading Australia's fixed broadband infrastructure, it remains slow and expensive by international standards," said Jones. "I speak as one of the many, many Australians who are sick of hearing about why that is and who's to blame - we just want it to work, where and when we want it."
When compared to the rest of the market, OVO's 100GB is up there with the best of them. Optus is currently the only provider to match OVO in value when it comes to a month-to-month mobile broadband plan, offering 100GB for $70. You can however 140GB per month for the same price if you're happy to sign a 12-month contract with Optus.
At time of writing, every higher mobile broadband plan with a higher cost per month includes less data, but given how quickly the market moves, we'd expect this to change soon.
