While today might have been all about Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, new smartphones weren't all Google had to announce. Home Hub is the latest smart home product from Google, pairing a Google Home smart speaker with a 7-inch touchscreen to provide visual information to go with voice response.
In addition to doing everything a normal Google Home can do - play music, provide news updates, set calendar appointments, et al - Home Hub will provide visual feedback for things like weather forecasts, traffic, recipies, and Google searches. You can use the screen for displaying photos and videos, and there's also a smart home dashboard for controlling any compatible smart home gadgets you might own.
Notably, Google decided not to include a camera on Home Hub, which in our opinion, is a good call. Always on, internet connected devices with cameras can be a bit creepy. This does however mean you can't use Home Hub for video calls.
Home Hub will be in stores from October 23, with pre-orders running now. It will set you back $219 and you'll find it in JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Officeworks, The Good Guys, Optus, Vodafone, and Google's online store.
