Australian streaming service Stan has begun informing existing subscribers that the price of their subscription will go up to $12 per month from August.
"From August, the price of your subscription will be changed to $12 and your terms and conditions will be updated," said the company in its email. "With offline viewing now included, Stan continues to give you more choices and more ways to watch your favourite shows."
Stan will still start at $10 per month, but the entry level subscription will only let you stream in standard definition, watch on one device, and download videos for offline viewing to one device. If you want high definition video and the ability to watch more than one stream simultaneously, you're now looking at $12 per month.
In effect, Stan has made its standard package $2 more expensive and introduced a new lower tier at the $10 mark.
Pricing for Stan's Premium plan has stayed firm at $15 per month. The $15 per month option gives you access to 4K quality where available, and lets you stream on up to four devices simultaneously.

Stan introduced its revamped pricing at the end of June, but at the time, the changes only affected new subscribers. If you're a current subscriber and you would prefer not to pay $12 more month, you're able to downgrade to the $10 tier.
The move follows Netflix's recent price hike. While Netflix's increased subscription can partially be attributed to government requirements around digital GST, as an Australian company, Stan was already paying GST.
