TP-Link’s new gaming routers promise to help gamers get the most out of faster speed tiers like NBN 750 and NBN 2000.

The goldilocks model in the lineup is the TP-Link Archer GE550. Originally announced at CES this year, it boasts WiFi 7 support, tri-band connectivity, and speeds of up to 5,764Mbps. The back of the router is host to a trio of 2.5Gbps LAN ports plus a pair of 5Gbps ports.  Then, on the inside, it relies on a ventilation system with two separate heat sinks that promises to help offer better performance over sustained periods of use.

The Archer GE550 comes with TP-Link’s built-in HomeShield security tech, plus a gaggle of features oriented at gamers looking for more control and consistency across their home network.

As you might expect, the hardware here is adorned with customisable RGB lighting. Meanwhile, the software powering the Archer GE550 is primed to prioritise gaming traffic on your home network using a dedicated 5GHz band.

In Australia, the Archer GE550 is priced at $599. TP-Link is launching the router alongside four other gaming-oriented options. All but one of these sit underneath the Archer GE550 in price, but most of them sacrifice some of the bells and whistles mentioned above as a result.

To start with, the Archer GE400 is $200 cheaper but downgrades your home network to a dual-band setup that caps out at approximately 3,600Mbps. The Archer GE230 is even cheaper at $279 but is subject to an even lower 2,800Mbps speed limit. The Archer GXE75 sits underneath that at $249. Although this option only relies on WiFi 6E, it does come with tri-band connectivity and speeds of up to 2,400Mbps.

Meanwhile, the Archer GE800 swerves in the other direction. At $1,099, it’s the most expensive in the lineup. This router is built to offer a total of 19Gbps of bandwidth and speeds as fast as 11,520Mbps. It’s going to be overkill for most, but the obvious option for those who want to future-proof themselves no matter the cost.

All five of these routers come with EasyMesh compatibility, which means you can use any existing compatible networking gear to boost the coverage the hardware here provides. The entire range also come kitted out with a dedicated game panel showing real-time network status and integration with TP-Link’s HomeShield security tech.

TP-Link Australia and New Zealand managing director Neville Wang framed the new lineup as a response to the needs of consumers with the most demanding use case for their home network.

“We’ve built this lineup to give every type of gamer, from the weekend player to the serious competitor, a router that actually prioritises their game,” he said.

TP-Link’s new Archer gaming router range is available in Australia from this week.
