Australia hasn't always fared too well when it comes to internet speed rankings, but a new report from Ookla has found that the land down under has some of the fastest Starlink download speeds in the world.
In its 2025 Global Satellite Broadband Performance Report, Ookla says that Australia had median Starlink download speeds of 167Mbps in the third quarter of last year. That sees it outrank most other countries, including the United States (129Mbps), Canada (113Mbps), Brazil (109Mbps), Germany (123Mbps), and Japan (108Mbps), among others.
Only a small number of countries had faster median speeds, including New Zealand (185Mbps), Latvia (187Mbps), Portugal (180Mbps), and Azerbaijan (182Mbps).
Starlink is currently available in over 155 countries.
Australian Starlink customers also enjoy lower latency than all other markets with the exception of New Zealand and the Bahamas.
Ookla estimates that Australia was Starlink's seventh biggest market as of the third quarter of 2025, with Aussies representing 4.1% of its customer base. The United States have the largest share, representing an estimates 22.5% of customers. This is followed by Mexico with 5.7% and Indonesia with 5.3%.
