NBN provider MATE has added an NBN 2000 offering to its lineup, dubbed the “Scorchin’ Fast NBN 2000/200” plan.

Only introduced in September 2025, the NBN 2000 speed tier hasn't seen popular adoption from consumers or even internet providers. In fact, with the addition of MATE, only three internet providers of the 34 in our database offer NBN 2000 plans. At least two other providers not tracked in our database – Launtel and Leaptel – also offer residential NBN 2000 plans.

NBN 2000 availability is restricted to households with either an HFC or FTTP connection, which is the case for all NBN speed tiers from NBN 500 and up. But, unlike the slower speed plans, NBN 2000 enforces a different upload limit depending on which technology you have. Those with an HFC connection have an upload speed cap of 100Mbps, while FTTP households get a limit of 200Mbps.

If you're unsure of what connection type you have, you can check your address using our handy widget below.

How does it compare?

MATE’s NBN 2000 plan compares pretty well to the competition, largely due to self-reported typical evening speeds. In terms of pricing, it's roughly on par with Superloop and quite a bit cheaper than Aussie Broadband.

Price

Both MATE and Superloop have introductory discounts for the first six months, after which the cost goes up to an ongoing standard price. The prices here are similar enough that you can just pick whichever option suits your needs best, but let’s quickly break it down anyway because comparing plans is what we do.

MATE’s intro discount is $25 per month, making it $141 per month for that six-month period. After the deal ends, it’s $166 per month. Assuming these prices remain unchanged, your first full year with MATE would cost you $1,842 and each year thereafter would be $1,992.

Superloop’s deal gets you $20 per month off for six months, making it $145 per month during that period. After the intro discount ends, the ongoing price is $165 per month. At these prices, your first full year with Superloop would run you $1,860, and each year thereafter would be $1,980.

So, the first year with MATE is $18 cheaper in total – over the full course of that year. Each full year after that is $12 cheaper with Superloop.

Performance

NBN providers are required to report the typical evening speeds of their plans. While it’s by no means a guarantee, this is usually a good indicator of what you might expect before signing up.

Unfortunately, there’s an issue when it comes to comparing the performance of NBN 2000 plans, due to how each provider chooses to offer their products based on a given household’s connection technology.

It’s particularly apparent when it comes to reported upload performance because HFC households are capped at 100Mbps, while FTTP households are capped at 200Mbps.

Superloop splits its NBN 2000 plan into two products: one for HFC and one for FTTP. This approach makes it easier for the customer to get an idea of what performance they might expect at their own premises.

For these plans, Superloop reports 1700Mbps typical evening downloads, no matter the connection type. For uploads, the telco reports typical evening speeds of 85Mbps for HFC and a much faster 170Mbps for FTTP.

Aussie Broadband also splits its plans up by technology, but adds an extra "Pro" FTTP plan for the ultra enthusiast.

The HFC plan reports typical evening downloads of 1780Mbps and uploads of 92Mbps. The regular (non-Pro) FTTP plan reports 1810Mbps typical evening downloads and 178Mbps uploads.

As for Aussie's "Pro" NBN 2000 plan, it has significantly faster potential max uploads. At present, the telco reports the same typical evening download speeds of 1810Mbps and a blistering typical 430Mbps for uploads. If you aren't sure whether you need this plan, you don't need it. And if you do need it, you likely already know exactly why.

MATE appears to have lumped FTTP and HFC connections together for reporting the typical performance of its new NBN 2000 plan, which means customers with either connection type might not get a great idea of what to expect in advance for upload speeds.

For what it's worth, MATE still reports impressive typical evening download speeds of 1831Mbps – faster than both Superloop and Aussie. But uploads are a different story, with typical evening speeds reported to be 96Mbps.
