Amazon's latest eero wireless mesh routers are now available in Australia, bringing WiFi 7 connectivity and support for internet speeds so fast they're not widely accessible locally yet.
The new eeros come in two varieties: the standard eero 7 and fancier eero Pro 7. The eero 7 is a dual-band router that can handle internet connections up to 2.5Gbps, and can offer WiFi speeds as fast as 1.8Gbps. The eero Pro 7 is tri-band, has support for internet connections as fast as 5Gbps, and doubles WiFi speeds to 3.6Gbps.
Internet that fast simply isn't a reality for most in Australia right now, but NBN Co will launch 2Gbps plans in September this year. These will be available to those who have FTTP or HFC at home. There's no word on if or when NBN might start offering consumer plans faster than NBN 2000.
Even if you can't take advantage of NBN 2000 speeds or don't have WiFi 7 devices, the new eero routers could still improve the performance of older devices. The eero 7 family have more bandwidth for connecting to each other in a mesh network, which can reduce congestion and improve network stability.
The eero 7 starts at $299.99 for a single unit, or is available in a three-pack for $649.99. The eero Pro 7 starts at $529.99 for a single unit, or $1,199.99 for a three-pack. The pair join the much more expensive eero Max 7, which launched around a year ago.
Amazon is still continue to sell its popular older eero 6 devices, like the entry-level model and the eero 6+. The eero 6+ is commonly sold as an add-on for NBN plans through several providers, including Superloop, Tangerine, Buddy, and AGL.
These are the most popular NBN 50 plans with WhistleOut users this week:
