NBN plans under $50

Looking to get NBN on a budget? There's plenty of cheaper plans on the market that you can pick from. It is however worth considering the potential trade-offs you'll make by taking up a more affordable NBN connection. The two main sacrifices are slower speeds and a lower monthly data allowance.

In most cases, cheaper NBN plans are limited to download speeds of 12Mbps. This is roughly equivalent to the average speeds you'd get on ADSL2+. If you're managing to hit 12Mbps (as advertised), this kind of connection is more than enough for day-to-day internet usage. It won't wow you, but it's still more than fast enough for streaming high definition video through the likes of Netflix, Stan, or YouTube.

However, a 12Mbps NBN connection may get stretched thin in a multi-person household, especially if everyone is trying to stream video at the same time

Depending on which provider you go with, you might end up with a smaller monthly data allowance, which might put off heavy downloaders. That being said, some plans under $50 can still include as much as 500GB.
